A premium handmade cigar is entirely crafted from whole tobacco leaves, meticulously assembled in three distinct layers:

• Wrapper (Capa) : The outermost leaf. Flawless, oily, and highly flavorful. It accounts for up to 60% of the cigar's total flavor profile.
• Binder (Capote) : The structural leaf that holds the filler tobacco tightly together and ensures a consistent, even burn.
• Filler (Tripa) : The core blend of leaves (usually 3 to 5 different types) that dictate the strength and complexity of the cigar.
• Cap & Foot: The cap is the enclosed head you cut before smoking. The foot is the open end you light.

The goal is to open the cap without unravelling the wrapper. Always cut above the "shoulder" (the curved line where the cap ends).

Hold the cigar at a 45-degree angle above the flame. Rotate it slowly to toast the foot until the entire surface is evenly charred. Only then, place it in your mouth and take gentle puffs while holding the flame near (but not touching) the foot to draw the heat in.

• Soft Flame (Matches/Bic): Cooler burn, preserving delicate wrapper flavors. Must be used indoors away from wind. Let sulfur matches burn off entirely before toasting.
• Torch Lighter: Wind-resistant and highly precise. Can scorch the tobacco if held too close. Keep the visible tip of the flame at least an inch away.
• Cedar Spill: The traditional method. Igniting a strip of Spanish cedar provides a low-temperature flame that imparts a subtle, sweet aroma during the light.

Cigar sickness (nausea, cold sweats, or dizziness) is caused by a sudden influx of nicotine, which acts as an alkaline and triggers a rapid drop in blood sugar levels.

• Prevention: Never smoke a full-bodied cigar on an empty stomach. A hearty meal beforehand is your best defense. Keep your pacing to about one puff per minute so the cigar doesn't overheat and release excess nicotine.
• The Cure: If you feel green, you need to raise your blood sugar quickly. A packet of pure sugar, a sugary soda, or a piece of chocolate will neutralize the alkaline effects and relieve the nausea within minutes.
